So what’s Red all about? It’s about the grey shades in the plot that make you see red only minutes into the movie! For even as the story unfolds in silhouettes and shady suspense, the thrill runs out of steam long before its run-of-the-mill climax. End result — Red rides high on style and oomph minus all the thrills and chills.
Hero Neel (Aftab Shivadasni) has a hole in his heart. Fighting between life and death, Neel gets a new lease of life as an anonymous donor donates a heart. But with the heart there is always a possibility of heartbreak! Rejuvenated with a new heart, while the hero goes hitting the hay with the beautiful widow (Celina Jaitley) of the heart donor, there’s loads of jiggery-pokery that forms the later half of the movie.
However, there are neither hardly any edge-of-the-seat moments nor any suspense like you’d expect a thriller to be. Instead, the screen intermittently scorches with steamy scenes between the raunchy widow and her himbo. And though the movie is low on testosterone, it tickles the erogenous zones. Besides, the screenplay is a bona fide downer.
Nevertheless, Shivdasani gives an excellent performance in the lead role as he proves his métier in the flick that unfortunately will not catapult him to a different league. As a loner who is in desperate need of companionship, he cuts a credible performance. Jaitley too displays more than her wares, though it is her dare bare act that grabs more attention.
