Tibetology for you

KATHMANDU: Araniko visited China on an invitation of Kubla Khan, the then emperor of Mongolia. Marking another golden phase in the history of Nepal-China diplomatic and cultural relationship, a group of Tibetan artists have staged an exhibition at the Siddhartha Art Gallery from January 5.

The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by the Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Sub Heping and State Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yankila Sherpa.

The exhibition titled ‘Contemporary Paintings From Tibet’ has put together 56 paintings of five prominent Tibetan artists that capture the Shangri-la image of the country, which has existed since time immemorial.

The paintings are made with the finesse of Master painters rendered in different mediums, which also includes etch print and mineral pigment on cloth as well as ink and colour among many others. The paintings do not perhaps resemble the ‘Western contemporary model’ but there cannot be a better representation of the pristine glory of the Tibetan culture and tradition.

The exhibition will continue till January 11. — HNS
