Timeless figures
KATHMANDU:
Leaving a lasting impression on the art lovers of Nepal, ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal Grace Asirwatham, before leaving the country, organised a grand exhibition of her paintings at Hotel Hyatt on June 24.
The exhibition was shifted to Srijana Contemporary Art Gallery on June 25 and was inaugurated by Uttam Nepali.
Most of her paintings are on women. She has shown women in different moods and shades. Her women are either daydreaming or have reached the height of tranquillity and serenity. These women do not seem to be bound by time, and in the same manner neither is Asirwatham’s art. They are timeless.
She has projected the feelings of freedom and rejection in a beautiful way.
Landscapes and other forms of nature have left an impression on Asirwatham and she had come up with some beautiful way to portray them on canvas. The birds, flowers are picture perfect. The use of earthly colours has given her painting
a natural glow and something the everyone can relate to. The vibrant
hues of life are subdued in her painting, but nevertheless they are bright and full of life.
The bond between a mother and child is special. Asirwatham has revealed this love shared between a mother and child in a subtle goldenish and yellowish colour illustrating purity of the relationship. The painting of mermaid shows the quest and curiosity of a painter’s mind and her desire to unveil the unknown.
(The exhibition is on till June 27)
