Tom Hanks to present Oscar
LOS ANGELES: Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks will make an appearance on stage at Oscars ceremony, presenting one of the golden statuettes to a winner, organisers announced on January 30.
The 47-year-old double Oscar winner, who won back-to-back best actor awards for his roles in 1993’s ‘Philadelphia’ and 1994’s ‘Forrest Gump’, will be making his 11th appearance as an Oscars presenter. Hanks, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and a two-time Oscar winner and five-time nominee, is the first presenter to be announced for the 2004 Oscars show that will be televised to millions around the world.
One of Tinseltown’s most powerful players and a governor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which runs the Oscars, he has starred in hits such as ‘Big’ in 1988, 1998’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and 2000’s ‘Cast Away’, all won him Oscar nominations.
Hanks will next appear in ‘Lady Killers’ which is due to hit screens later this year.
Cinema’s highest honours will be awarded in Hollywood on February 29.
