Kathmandu:

It was on January 1, 1890 that The University of Tasmania (UTAS) was officially started and was the fourth university to be established in nineteenth-century Australia. But, it is also the youngest university. After celebrating its centenary, in 1991, the University merged with the Tasmanian State Institute of Technology in Newnham, Launceston (TSIT), to form a ‘new’ University of Tasmania.
