KATHMANDU, MARCH 1
Rajendra Mahato, chairperson of the Rastriya Mukti Party Nepal, has demanded an investigation into Rinku Sada's murder, as well as action against the perpetrators.
He has also warned that if the government fails to provide justice to the victims, the party will launch a major protest.
Mahato stated in a statement today that the government is still not serious despite the fact that 17-year-old Rinku Kumari Sada of Bhagawatipur, Nawarajpur Rural Municipality-1, Siraha, was gang raped and died suspiciously.
According to reports, three so-called upper-caste men kidnapped and raped 17-year-old Rinku Sada in Siraha district.
A community meeting (panchayat) was called to facilitate negotiations between her family and the offenders. Later, she was discovered dead at her home.
The police report is suspicious, while the family accuses the perpetrators of killing their daughter. However, in response to additional complaints, police arrested eight people, including Panchayat members.
Mahato stated that his party strongly opposes any attempt to protect criminals, destroy evidence, or provide political protection for the incident and demand swift justice for the victim's family as well as strict punishment for the perpetrators.
"Today is also World Civil Defence Day, but the citizens of Nepal do not feel defended," he stated.
"In recent days, there has been an increase in intimidation, hooliganism, murder, violence, rape, and other heinous crimes in Nepal, raising serious concerns about the rule of law. If strict policies are not implemented to prevent such crimes, there will be a serious crisis in citizens' security," he claimed.
He expressed solidarity with all citizens, human rights activists, and justice-loving organisations fighting for justice and urged them to put up strong resistance to injustices, including the Rinku Sada murder case.
