"Cable Car Project in Mukkumlung to Hurt Indigenous Sentiment"

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 27

The Rastriya Mukti Party has decided to accelerate its expansion efforts.

Chairperson Rajendra Mahato told mediapersons here today that the recent central committee meeting decided to launch an organisational expansion campaign, training programmes, and fundraising campaign beginning March 14.

"The campaign aims to bring the party to every village," he stated. The meeting also stated that all central members of the party have been instructed to submit their property information to the central office within 15 days.

According to Mahato, it is necessary to fight various ongoing struggles in the country, such as the a cable car project in Mukkumlung, the struggle against unjust road expansion and river standards in the valley, the struggle of Swargadwari Guthi, the struggle of cooperative victims, and so on.

He stated, "It is necessary to carry out a national liberation revolution together to alter the single-ethnic character of the state and create a country with a plural national character and practice self-governance. It has been decided to form a broad front with parties and organisations that share the same views and ideas for the movement and struggle."

He accused the coalition parties, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, of exacerbating internal divisions rather than resolving the crisis, as they are driven by their crony interests.

Furthermore, he called the Taplejung incident barbaric and claimed that he and his party cadres were attacked by authorities there, demanding an investigation and action against the perpetrators.

Additionally, he claimed that the District Police Chief had personally harassed the people, questioning why they had been given food and water while staying at the hotel on February 22. He claimed that the administration had instructed them to leave at midnight, and that there was an attempt to attack them as they left.

He questioned the police silence and claimed that there was suspicious interference during the torch demonstration from Kafle Pati to Phungling on Falgun 22.

"Because Mukkumlung is a place of faith, culture, and environmental protection, no cable car project should be pursued, as it would silence and harm indigenous people's sentiments," he said.
