KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 28

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Bhairabkunda in Sindhupalchowk district early this morning, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center.

The tremor occurred at 2:51 am, with strong shocks felt in Kathmandu and nearby districts.

The quake was also experienced in eastern and southern parts of Nepal.

According to the reports, the earthquake has caused damage and injuries in various parts of Sindhupalchowk and Dhading districts. The details of the damage received so far are as follows:

An inmate at the district prison in Chautara fractured his hand after falling from a double-decker bunk bed while attempting to escape during the earthquake. He was taken to Chautara District Hospital for treatment.

A wall measuring approximately 7-8 feet in length cracked at the northern side of the one-story barrack with a tin roof at the Area Police Office, Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2 Sindhupalchowk,

A dry landslide occurred on a cliff in Tusare of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-3, Sindhupalchowk. Fortunately, no human or livestock casualties have been reported as there are no settlements nearby. A team of five personnel, led by Inspector Sanjita Shrestha from the Area Police Office, Kodari, has been deployed to the site, located approximately 12-13 km west-southwest of the Suprabal Nepal BOP (Border Outpost) in Tatopani.

A 43-year-old man, Rupesh Tamang, sustained a head injury after slipping while trying to exit his house during the earthquake in Katunje of Melamchi Municipality-11 of Sindhupalchowk. He was taken to Melamchi Municipal Hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

The two-story mud-and-stone house with a tin roof belonging to Suman Gautam developed cracks along a 10-12 feet stretch of the wall, rendering it uninhabitable in Tamakhubari of Lisankhupakhar Rural Municipality-4, in Sindhupalchowk. The family, including his wife and their two-year-old son, has moved into the nearby.

At the Area Police Office, Gajuri, in Dhading Police Constable Akash Regmi suffered a nasal bone fracture and lost a front tooth after hitting the barrack wall while attempting to evacuate during the earthquake. He was treated at Gajuri Hospital and discharged at around 5:00 AM after receiving primary care.

Authorities are assessing the damage and have deployed response teams to affected areas for further assessment and relief efforts.
