Uggie the dog dies

LOS ANGELES: Uggie the dog, who stole hearts with its role in the Oscar-winning film The Artist, has died. It was 13.

The Jack Russell terrier also appeared in the Reese Witherspoon film Water for Elephants. It was put down on August 7 in Los Angeles after battling a prostate tumour. Its owner Omar Von Mueller said it was a difficult decision, but Uggie had been suffering with tumour, and the last few weeks were especially difficult.

Uggie won the Palm Dog Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival for its work in The Artist. It did all its stunts in the movie and was the first canine to have its paw prints on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
