Deepa Mehta’s film Water about the plight of widows in 1930s India has been shortlisted in the best foreign film category for the Oscars. The Canadian film, which stars John Abraham and Lisa Ray, finds place in the list along with the acclaimed Black Book from the Netherlands and Volver from Spain, reports Variety.com. Other films on the list are Days of Glory (Algeria), After the Wedding (Denmark), Avenue Montaigne (France), The Lives of Others (Germany), Pan’s Labyrinth (Mexico) and Vitus (Switzerland).
