Weekend lounge
The Chands — Michael and Bhuwan — are a pair made in heaven. Not only has his voice mesmerised us for over three decades, he has contributed immensely to strengthen ties between Nepal and Germany as the Director of Goethe Zentrum, Kathmandu. His better half, actor Bhuwan Chand, has given us fine movies. Weekends for them is cooking, going on long drives and time with their dogs.
On a cooking spree
For us weekends are something we deserve after five days of hard work. On weekends we usually stay home and/or are involved in household activities. We are usually busy cooking, walking in the garden or just around the neighbourhood,” says Michael Chand.
And Bhuwan Chand adds, “Sometimes we go for long drives since there is only three of us here right now. We generally don’t make plans. It’s spontaneous and it doesn’t take us much time to organise such outings.”
The one thing that Michael really looks forward to during weekends is cooking.
“Ma khana ko saukhin chhu (I enjoy good food) and I like to try to cook new stuff usually international ones,” he says.
“I really love the Chinese dishes he prepares. They taste really good,” says Bhuwan.
And the varieties of rice in the market always entice him, and he ends up buying one or the other kind when they go shopping. “I try to mix the different varieties and create something unique which usually turns out to be quite good,” he says.
Another favourite pastime they indulge in is taking care of their dogs. “They have become a part of our family and are like our children. We make sure they get the best of food and hygiene and that they get complete care,” says Bhuwan. — As told to Eva Manandhar
