Wheelchair ramp for Stones’ concert?
AUCKLAND: The Rolling Stones have balked at a demand that the stage for their Auckland concert on April 16 have wheelchair access. Auckland City Council safety officers also demanded the stage, measuring 24 metres high, 63 metres wide and 32 metres deep, should be surrounded by a safety rail. Concert production manager Robbie Barclay said he had convinced the council the measures were unnecessary. “The guys are very old, but none of them needs a wheelchair ramp,” Barclay said. The Stones, including Sir Mick Jagger, 62 and Keith Richard, 65, are expected to play to a crowd of 55,000 at Auckland’s Western Springs Stadium as part of a world tour.
