KATHMANDU: Dee Catmandu MTC organised ‘+2 Music Competition Part II’ at BICC on March 13. “We want to promote new singers and bands through the spirit of competition,” stated Deepak Singh, organiser and coordinator. “We held Part I of this competition earlier. The winners of Part I and Part II will be competing in the final mega event at Dashrath stadium.”
There were eight competitors in the event — Prime College, SM College, Pashupati College, New Millennium Academy, Galaxy, Welham’s College, Brook Field College and Cambridge College. The participants seemed much influenced by grunge, hardcore rock, rap and hip-hop. Welham’s college performed an improvised version of “Rato ra chandra surya” which was pretty impressive, only their patriotism seemed misplaced. One rapping foursome seemed to think that swear words were cool and they were saying them out loud on stage, which is surprising. It would have been better judgement on the organiser’s part to have an audition first.
Guest artistes were Nepsydaz, Prem Lama, Scrambling Band, 9 Double 7, Sharad Singh, Nobel Band and Pramod Nirwan ‘n Music Link. The judges: Dev Rana, Jeorge Subba, Om Bikram Bista and Subarna Limbu. Title awards given were Best Vocalist, Best Lead Guitarist, Best Bass Guitarist, Best Rhythm Guitarist and Best Drummer. — HNS
