KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 7

Krishna Prasad Yadav was sworn in today as the sixth Chief Minister of Madhes Province.

Province Chief Dr. Surendra Labh Karna administered the oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony attended by leaders of various parties and former chief ministers.

Yadav was appointed with the backing of 77 Provincial Assembly members from the Nepali Congress, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Maoist Centre, Unified Socialist and Janamat Party.

Yadav will seek a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly on December 10. The decision was made during a meeting of the seven-party ruling alliance, said Ram Ashish Yadav, the JSP Nepal Chief Whip.

Three newly appointed ministers also took the oath:

  • Mahesh Prasad Yadav (Janamat Party) – Finance Minister
  • Jagilal Raya (Nepali Congress) – Minister without portfolio
  • Kanish Patel (Nepal Communist Party) – Minister without portfolio
