KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 18

The Supreme Court has directed the Chief Minister of Madhes Province, Saroj Kumar Yadav, to refrain from making any policy-level or strategic decisions until the final hearing of the case filed against him.

A division bench comprising Justices Nahakul Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokhrel issued the interim order on Tuesday, instructing Chief Minister Yadav to avoid decisions that could have long-term or far-reaching implications.

"In the prima facie assessment, serious concerns have been raised regarding the values and transparency of parliamentary democracy in relation to the appointment of the Chief Minister. Therefore, a final hearing is required. The government purportedly formed on November 9 shall not engage in policy-level or strategic decision-making," the order stated.

The writ petition was filed by Krishna Prasad Yadav, the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress in the Madhes Province Assembly, challenging the appointment of Chief Minister Yadav from the CPN-UML.

The final hearing on the case is scheduled for November 27.
