KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 13

Climatologists have indicated that the monsoon system is showing variations, likely due to global warming.

They observed that this year's monsoon withdrawal was delayed by 10 days compared to previous years, which they attribute to climate change.

Climatologist Manjit Dhakal regards the delayed retreat of the monsoon as a significant shift in the monsoon pattern, viewing it as a direct consequence of climate change. Additionally, he linked the heavy rainfall on September 27 and 28 to the same phenomenon, though he emphasized the importance of further research into climate-related hazards.

In a brief interaction with an RSS representative, Dhakal suggested the adoption of climate-friendly development practices to ensure sustainability, stressing the need to prioritize climate adaptation programs, as recommended in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report.

Meteorologist Bishnu Ghimire similarly highlighted the need for research to determine whether the delayed monsoon withdrawal is indeed a result of climate change.

He, too, acknowledged the apparent shift in the monsoon pattern as an effect of global warming.
