KATHMANDU, JULY 4

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces today, as monsoon activity intensifies across the country.

According to the DHM, the monsoon trough remains near its normal position, resulting in widespread weather disturbances. The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy nationwide throughout the day.

Day Forecast:

  • Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, and at some places in the rest of the country.
  • Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at one or two locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini.
  • Light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely in the high hills and mountainous regions.
Night Forecast:
  • The weather will remain partly to generally cloudy across Nepal.
  • Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected at some locations in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and at a few places elsewhere.
  • Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast at isolated spots in the same three provinces.
  • Light snowfall or rainfall may occur in higher altitudes.
Kathmandu Valley:

The Valley will experience partly to generally cloudy skies, with light to moderate showers or thundershowers likely in the afternoon and at night. The probability of rainfall in the Valley is estimated at 60 percent, according to the DHM.

The DHM have urged the public to remain alert, especially in flood- and landslide-prone areas, as continuous rainfall could trigger rising river levels, flash floods, and landslides in vulnerable zones.
