The Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Lumbini provinces on Friday, with monsoon activity expected to remain active across Nepal.
According to the Division's 24-hour forecast, hilly and Himalayan regions will remain generally cloudy throughout the day, while the Terai of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces is also expected to witness widespread cloud cover. Parts of the Terai in Koshi and Madhesh provinces will remain partly cloudy.
Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at several places across the hilly and Himalayan regions, while scattered showers are also expected in the Terai. Heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated locations in the hilly region of Lumbini and the hilly and Himalayan areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces, raising the risk of flash floods, landslides and river swelling.
The Division said monsoon winds continue to influence weather across Nepal. The monsoon trough currently lies slightly north of its normal position over western Nepal and remains close to its average position in the eastern part of the country.
For Friday night, generally cloudy conditions are expected over the hills and mountains with partly cloudy skies over the Terai. Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue at a few places, particularly in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Kathmandu is likely to record a maximum temperature of 28–30 degrees Celsius on Friday, with moderate rain and thundershowers expected during the day and at night. Pokhara, Jumla and Taplejung are among the areas with a 60 per cent probability of rainfall, while Janakpur is expected to remain the hottest city with temperatures reaching 35–37 degrees Celsius.
