KATHMANDU, APRIL 24

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast generally cloudy conditions in Koshi Province and the country's hilly and Himalayan regions on Friday, with chances of rain and thunderstorms, while hot conditions are expected to persist across the Tarai.

According to the department, moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi Province, and at a few locations in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the Himalayan regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim. Light rain is also possible in parts of the Tarai in Koshi Province and at one or two places in Madhesh.

Meteorologists have warned of hot day conditions across the Tarai, valleys and lowlands of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, with heatwave conditions likely in parts of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim Tarai.

By night, weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the Himalayan region, partly cloudy in the hills, and mainly fair in the Tarai. Light rain or snowfall is likely at a few places in the Himalayan regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.

The department said the country is currently under the partial influence of westerly and local winds.

Among major locations, heatwave conditions are forecast in Nepalgunj (39–41°C), Dhangadhi (38–40°C) and Bhairahawa (39–41°C), while hot day conditions are expected in Janakpur, Birendranagar and Ghorahi.

Rain with thunderstorms is likely in several hilly and mountainous areas, including Kathmandu, Pokhara, Dhankuta, Okhaldhunga and Jomsom.

The department has urged the public to take precautions against heat-related risks in the Tarai and remain alert to possible thunderstorms in hilly and mountainous regions.
