KATHMANDU, MAY 11

Generally cloudy conditions are expected across Sudurpashchim Province and the hilly and Himalayan regions of the country today, while the Terai will remain partly cloudy, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

There is a possibility of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as in other hilly and mountainous areas. Light rain with thunder is also likely at one or two places in the remaining Terai regions.

Tonight, cloudy conditions are forecast to persist over Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, along with the hilly and Himalayan regions, while other areas will see partly cloudy skies. Moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in these provinces and at isolated locations elsewhere.

Meteorologists said the current weather pattern is influenced by westerly and local winds, along with a low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere over central and eastern Nepal.

Among major cities, Pokhara, Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Jomsom and Taplejung are likely to witness moderate rainfall with thunder during the day. Kathmandu Valley is expected to have light rain with thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging between 26°C and 28°C.

In the Terai, cities including Nepalgunj, Biratnagar, Janakpur and Bhairahawa are expected to remain partly cloudy during the day, with chances of light rain and thunderstorms developing at night.

Temperatures across the country are expected to vary widely, with maximum temperatures reaching up to 37°C in Nepalgunj, while minimum temperatures could drop as low as 3°C in Jumla tonight.
