Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in several parts of the country today, particularly in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, while partly cloudy conditions will prevail elsewhere. Rainfall is also likely at a few places in Madhesh Province and in the hilly and Himalayan regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, with isolated showers possible in the Terai of Lumbini.

Despite the rainfall, hot day conditions are expected to persist in parts of the Terai, especially in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.

Tonight, partly to generally cloudy conditions are forecast across the country, with chances of light to moderate rain or snowfall in some hilly and Himalayan areas, including Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Meteorologists said the current weather pattern is influenced by westerly and local winds, along with a low-pressure system in the lower atmosphere over the eastern region.

Among major cities, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is likely in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Okhaldhunga and Dhankuta, while Biratnagar and Janakpur may also witness rainfall during the day. In contrast, high temperatures are expected in the western Terai, with Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj likely to record highs of around 39–41 degrees Celsius.
