KATHMANDU, MAY 12Cloudy conditions and rainfall are likely across much of the country today, particularly in hilly and mountainous regions, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.Koshi Province and the hilly and mountainous regions of other provinces are expected to remain generally cloudy, while the Terai will see partly cloudy conditions. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at a few locations in Madhesh and other hilly regions. Isolated rainfall is also possible in parts of the Terai.Tonight, cloudy conditions will persist in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the hilly and mountainous regions nationwide. The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in these provinces and at a few places elsewhere, including isolated areas in Lumbini's Terai.Meteorological officials said the current weather pattern is influenced by a western low-pressure system combined with local winds and a low-pressure area in the lower atmosphere.Among major cities, Pokhara is likely to witness moderate rain with a 70 percent probability today, followed by Kathmandu with 60 percent. Similar conditions are expected in Jiri, Taplejung and Dhankuta.In the Terai, cities such as Biratnagar, Janakpur and Bhairahawa may experience light to moderate rainfall, while temperatures are expected to remain relatively high, reaching up to 36 degrees Celsius in Nepalgunj and Dhangadi.The Department has advised caution, particularly in areas prone to landslides and flash floods, as intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue.
