Westerly and local winds influencing weather conditions

KATHMANDU, MAY 16

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast generally cloudy conditions in several parts of the country today, with chances of rain, thunderstorms and windstorms.

According to the Department, Koshi Province and the hilly and mountainous regions of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces will remain mostly cloudy, while other areas are expected to see partly cloudy weather.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in Koshi Province and at a few locations in the hilly and mountainous regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Isolated rainfall is also possible in Madhesh Province and other hilly regions. Windstorms may occur at a few places in the Terai.

Tonight, cloudy conditions are expected to persist in Koshi Province and the mountainous regions of Bagmati and Gandaki, while the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to fair weather.

There remains a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places in Koshi Province and isolated areas of Bagmati and Gandaki. Windstorms are also likely in parts of the Terai, particularly in Madhesh and Lumbini provinces.

Meteorological analysis indicates that the country is currently under the partial influence of westerly winds, local winds and a low-pressure system over eastern Nepal.

Among major cities, Kathmandu and Pokhara are expected to receive moderate rainfall with thundershowers, while Biratnagar and Janakpur may witness light to moderate rain.

The Department has urged the public to remain cautious of thunderstorms, lightning and possible windstorms, particularly in hilly and Terai regions.
