KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 31

Nepal has successfully conducted its first genetic test (gene sequencing) for breast cancer.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the National Public Health Laboratory in Teku, Kathmandu, achieved this milestone.

The Ministry announced that genetic testing for breast cancer can now be performed at the Laboratory, eliminating the need to send samples to India.

The facility will conduct breast cancer screenings through gene sequencing using blood and tissue samples. Additionally, the Laboratory will routinely handle four other types of cancer-related samples.

The genetic test, which costs around Rs 6,000 in India, will be available at half the price at the National Laboratory, according to the Ministry's Secretariat.
