KATHMANDU, November 7
The Department of Health Services' Nutrition Branch has announced that the nationwide distribution of vitamin 'A' capsules and deworming tablets for children will continue today under the National Vitamin A Programme.
According to Lila Bikram Thapa, Head of the Nutrition Branch, children aged six months to 59 months are receiving vitamin 'A' capsules, while those aged one to five years are being given deworming tablets.
More than 52,000 female community health volunteers and 15,000 health workers have been mobilized for the campaign. The second phase of the programme is scheduled for April 19 and 20 next year.
Launched in 1993 to combat child malnutrition, the government began routinely administering deworming medicine in 1999.
