KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 21

The government has appointed Tekendra Karki as chief and principal investigation director of the National Investigation Department (NID), Nepal's sole intelligence agency.

The Cabinet meeting held today endorsed Karki's promotion to the top post. The position had been vacant since September 13, when former chief Hutaraj Thapa retired after completing his three-year term.

Originally from Jumla, Karki began his career as an investigation officer in 1996 and was serving as additional principal director before this appointment. He was selected over contender Om Prakash Joshi for the three-year tenure.
