1 killed, 7 injured as brake failure sends truck to collide with vehicles

KATHMANDU: A person died and seven others were injured when a truck went out of control and rammed other vehicles along the Prithvi Highway in Chandragiri Municipality of Kathmandu on Friday.

The incident occurred when the truck (Na 3 Kha 5773) rammed a Nissan four-wheeler vehicle killing its driver on the spot and injuring seven others near Nepal Telecom Office in Gurjudhara. The injured were travelling on a taxi (Registration yet to be identified) and a motorcycle (Ba 69 Pa 6285) in Thankot at around 11:00 am today, according to Police Constable Sitaram Chaudhary of Thankot-based Metropolitan Police Circle.

The injured were rushed to Balkhu-based Vayodha Hospital, Bageshwari Hospital among other health institutions in Kathmandu, said police.

The preliminary investigation points to brake failure as the cause of the accident, police said.
