10 Kamaiyas injured in baton-charge

Kathmandu, July 19:

Police today rained batons on agitating freed Kamaiys while they were trying to enter Singha Durbar from Maitighar. At least 10 freed Kamaiyas were injured in the police action. Police also arrested 100 freed Kamaiyas. All the arrested were freed later, police said.

Staging a sit-in, the freed Kamaiyas were urging the government to rehabilitate them and provide them with jobs.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Confederation of National Trade Union (DECONT), Nepal, flayed the use of force and arrest of the freed Kamaiyas.

Man Kumari Chaudhari, Aasmita Chaudhari, Lauti Tharu were seriously injured in police action, the DECONT said.
