10,000 youth contribute to post-quake operations
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Youth and Sports said as many as 10,000 youth volunteered worked in post-earthquake rescue, relief and recovery operations across the nation.
Speaking at a function in the Capital, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mahendra Paudel, said nearly 10,000 youth had coordinated with the government for post-quake operations.
Paudel was speaking at a function organised by Yuwalaya, a youth-led organisation, in Kathmandu on Monday.
On the occasion, Yuwalaya launched a report of its post-earthquake awareness project.
The organisation has claimed that it made more than 50,000 people aware about psychological and social effects of natural disasters including earthquake, in 12 most affected districts.
Chairperson of the Central Child Welfare Board, Dilli Ram Giri, stressed on significance of youth mobilisation in post-emergency situations for recovery. He added that youth had a great role to lead developed nations towards prosperity.
The project was conducted by Yuwalaya in coordination with Changa Child’s magazine, supported by the UNICEF.
