14 people killed in road accidents during Dashain in Valley

KATHMANDU: Fourteen people died in road accidents in Kathmandu Valley during Dashain festival.

According to Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD), the road accidents that claimed the lives of 14 people took place from the day of Ghatasthapana on October 10 through Kojagrat Purnima on October 24.

The victims were mostly drivers or pedestrians.

MTPD chief, Senior Superintendent of Police Basanta Panta said, most of the accidents were caused due to over-speeding and reckless driving.

“There is very little traffic on the roads during the time of Dashain and many accidents occur during this time as people tend to drive at high speed,” he explained.

MTPD had launched the ‘traffic rapid squad’ in Kathmandu Valley for traffic management during Dashain. Fifty-five traffic police personnel had been mobilised for the campaign.
