KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 16

Political parties and candidates contesting the House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5 have formally commenced their election campaigns from today, in accordance with the election code of conduct.

According to the Election Commission (EC), candidates and political parties are permitted to organize rallies, mass meetings, corner assemblies, and publish election-related materials in media outlets only within the 15-day campaign period prior to the elections.

Under the same provision of the code of conduct, political parties and candidates may continue their publicity campaigns until midnight on March 1.

The EC has urged all stakeholders to conduct their campaigns while fully upholding the integrity and sanctity of the electoral process.

Furthermore, the Commission has mobilized various mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation and monitoring of the election code of conduct.

In the event of any violation, the EC will seek clarification from the concerned political parties or candidates and proceed with appropriate legal action. However, the Commission expressed confidence that such measures would not be necessary, as the code of conduct was formulated following extensive consultations with political parties and other stakeholders.

Similarly, Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari stated that the Commission has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward any breach of the election code of conduct.
