KATHMANDU: Two persons have been detained red-handed while receiving Rs 50,000 from a mineral water company’s proprietor after blackmailing him. Dipendra Paudel (29) of Rampur-15, Palpa district and Sunil Devkota (24) of Palungtar-5, Gorkha district, who were currently residing at Manamaiju in the Capital, had illegally opened the cap of a water jar marketed by the Trishuli Mineral Water and Beverage Private Limited and added an inedible substance into the water with an intention of the blackmail, police said. Then, the duo approached operator of the company, Hom Bahadur Bogati, and told him that they would report to authorities that his production was contaminated. They warned that it would lead to closure of the business. Later, they said the company could escape the action if the duo were paid a bribe of Rs 500,000. The operator also agreed to pay Rs 50,000 in the first instalment, but he cleverly tipped-off police about the rendezvous. Accordingly, police nabbed the duo on Tuesday while taking the bribe. Meanwhile, police also confiscated three mobile sets and cash from the suspects. Further investigation is underway.
