2 held with heroin worth 25m

KATHMANDU: An anti-narcotics aviation squad, dispatched from the Narcotic Drug Control and Law Enforcement Unit in New Baneshwor on February 14, had impounded 1.632-gram of heroin worth Rs 25 million from two drug traffickers.

The arrested drug traffickers have been identified as Kul Bahadur Tamang (39) with the passport number 4583555, hailing from Satyadevi- 3 of Dhading and Sharmila Tamang (21) with the passport number 4508434, from Parasan- 1 of Kanchanpur.

The Colombo-bound duo was arrested at the Tribhuvan International Airport. They had swallowed the contrabands in the form of plastic-coated capsules in a bid to elude security checks at the airport. The report was made available a week after their detention.

The drug peddlers were boarding Thai Airways plane (TG320) en route to Colombo, Sri Lanka from Bangkok when they were detained acting on a tip-off. Police officials claimed that they delayed disseminating the information to the public since the detainees were undergoing a medical examination.

The police had busted 81 plastic-coated capsules weighing 972-gram of heroin and 55 capsules containing 660-gram from abdominal cavities of Kul Bahadur and Sharmila, respectively, They were said to be using Nepal transit for the trafficking of heroin.
