32,000 students barred from appearing in SLC sent-up exams

Kathmandu, January 20:

Around 32,000 students of Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts were prevented from appearing in their School Leaving Certificate sent-up exams after the government imposed a day-long curfew today.

The postponed exam will take place after all other scheduled ones are completed, the District Education Office, said. As the regular sent-up examinations are conducted by various educational organisations like the Private and Boarding Schools Organisation Nepal, Nepal Teachers Organisation, among others, the subjects of the cancelled exams today varied according to different boards. While some had mathematics exams today, others had Nepali or English.

The students appearing for the sent-up examinations had little information about the curfew as the government notice on the same came late at night on January 19.

But Harish Chandra Yadav, Lalitpur District Education Officer, said: “The concerned organisations were informed about the postponement of the examinations.”

Ministry of Education today issued a notice and said the postponed examination will be held a day after the completion of regular schedule.

Kathmandu district has around 24,000 sent up examinees, Lalitpur has 8,000 regular and 500 private examinees, while Bhaktapur district has around 5,000 sent up candidates. The examinations of the community schools started from January 16, while the examinations under private educational bodies started yesterday.

Altogether 4,80,000 students have filled up the forms for the School Leaving Certificate sent up examinations this year.
