Man convicted of incest in teens held after 22 years

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police's Central Bureau of Investigation said it has arrested an absconding man who was convicted of incest 22 years ago.

Rev Kumar Khati (41) of Kalyanpur VDC-1 in Nuwakot district, was detained from Badikhel of Lalitpur yesterday. He was currently residing in Godavari Municipality-8.

After a medical check-up in June 1993 proved that Khati, who was teenager then, had impregnated one of his blood relatives, the Nuwakot District Court on April 18, 1994 had ordered three years in prison. Khati, however, was on the run.

Police presented Khati before the Kathmandu District Court for the execution of sentence. He was subsequently sent to the Sundhara-based Central Prison Office.

As per Nepal's Mukuli Ain, the General Code, a person who establishes sexual intercourse with a woman in his consanguineous kinship is liable to imprisonment.
