450 solar street lights yet to be installed

Kathmandu, December 21

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has yet to instal 450 of the additional 1,285 solar street lights in the city.

“We are looking for the right places to instal solar street lights,” said KMC Spokesperson Gyanendra Karki.  Installation of solar street lights along the Kalanki-Koteshwor stretch has also been delayed. “The ongoing road expansion has delayed installation of street lights. They will be installed after completion of the road expansion work,” said Karki.

KMC had started the process of installing additional street lights in the Valley’s streets a year ago. It had set the target of installing additional solar street lights in the Valley within one-and-a-half years.

According to KMC, roads have been divided into three sections — Kalanki-Kalimati-Maitighar-Koteshwor, Kesharmahal-Thamel-Sorakhutte- Balaju and Kamalpokhari-Gyaneshwor-Maitidevi-Gaushala — for the purpose.
