62 cases of violation of press freedom during polls
Kathmandu, April 19:
A total of sixty-two incidents of infringement on the freedom of press occurred at several places in the country since the country went to the constituent assembly election on April 10.
As per the information received from the Freedom of Press Monitoring Centre, IPI-Nepal chapter, the incidents include 22 armed attacks on journalists, four cases of intimidation, four cases in which cameras and cell phones were damaged, 12 cases of bullying, three incidents of looting, 15 incidents of dissuading journalists and two incidents of denial of access to information.
The election to the Constituent Assembly was found to be generally peaceful. But, the access of journalists to the polling booths and vote counting centres was not as expected.
