72 cops sacked in 2062 BS
Police HQ suspends 57, issues warning to 717:

Departmental action has been taken against 996 police personnel for behaving against the ethics of the police department, police headquarters said in a press release.
While action was taken against 109 police personnel for violating human rights during the year 2062 BS, 72 police personnel were sacked, 57 suspended and 717 were given warning.
“We stopped the promotion of 91 police personnel and decreased the grade of 59 police personnel during the year,” spokesperson for the Nepali police Ramesh Chand, said at a press conference organised by the headquarters on Friday.
The police officers up to the grade of deputy superintendent of police were punished for going against the ethics of Nepal Police. According to him, action was taken after police department found the staff guilty of crimes after probing the complaints lodged by the people.
A total of 167 complaints were filed in the current fiscal year against police personnel, Chand said. “Forty complaints were found to be genuine and we punished the police personnel concerned,” he said, adding, “Fifty-six complaints were found to be false.” He added that 48 complaints are still under investigation.
A total of 9,244 crimes took place in the country during the current fiscal year, Chand said in a report. Compared to the last fiscal year, the number of crimes has gone up by 622 this year. “While the number of crimes stood at 8,622 in the fiscal year 2005-6, it stood at 9,507 in fiscal year 2004-5.”
