KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 4

Yuwalaya, in collaboration with Plan International Nepal, takes a historic step in amplifying the voices of young women.

Kathmandu, Nepal – In a groundbreaking initiative, Yuwalaya, in partnership with Plan International Nepal, along with consortium of 31 organizations advocating for youth rights successfully organized the Dissemination Event of Nepal's first-ever Young Women-Led CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) Shadow Report.

This historic event marks a significant milestone in the journey toward gender equality, social justice, and the empowerment of young women in Nepal.

The report, entirely led by young women aged 18-25, highlights the grassroots issues faced by young women across all seven provinces of Nepal. Through extensive provincial consultations, the voices of young women from diverse backgrounds were captured, ensuring an intersectional and inclusive approach.

The report critically evaluates government policies, their implementation, and the lived realities of young women, offering actionable recommendations to address systemic challenges.

The Dissemination Event saw the participation of key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Women Commission, the National Youth Council, the National Human Rights Commission, and representatives from national and international civil society organizations and embassies. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to addressing the issues raised in the report and advancing the rights of young women in Nepal.

Speaking at the event, Dharma Raj Rimal, President of Yuwalaya, emphasized, "We need to understand the violence, grassroots challenges, and the ways young women are confronting them. Civil society's role is to listen to the unheard and bring these issues into the mainstream. This report stands as a testament to the power of youth leadership and the necessity of amplifying young women's voices"
