8 briefly detained from protest outside CIAA office
KATHMANDU: At least eight people were briefly detained from a protest outside the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of the Authority central office in Tangal of Kathmandu, on Sunday.
The detainees were the members of the Solidarity for Dr KC Alliance and the Bibeksheel Nepali party, which jointly organised the demonstration.
Supporters of Dr Govinda KC, a veteran orthopaedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, were heading toward the CIAA building to file a request to make the CIAA Chief Lokman Singh Karki's property details public in accordance to Article 27 of the Constitution and the Right to Information Act, 2007.
However, before they could file their complaint, police arrested them citing they were ordered so by the "high-level officials," according to the Bibeksheel Nepali. The protestors were released later.
Earlier, on Friday, the Kathmandu Chief District Officer Ram Krishna Subedi had issued an order prohibiting any form of protest an demonstration outside the CIAA office, citing security reasons.
On August 11, the Alliance had submitted a letter to the lawmakers urging them to take initiatives to impeach Karki under Article 101(2) of the Constitution.
