Over 80pc Nepali Congress PP members from Deuba panel

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress on Friday elected 22 members of its Parliamentary Party working committee.

Of them, 18 are learned to be loyal to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba while four belong to the rival faction led by Ram Chandra Paudel.

The election was held in Singh Durbar at 9 am.

As many as 42 lawmakers had filed candidacy for 22 positions of the Nepali Congress PP working committee membership yesterday.

Rajeev Bikram Shah was unanimously elected as he was the only contender for the one member reserved position for lawmakers from the backward region.

According to the new party statute, the party lawmakers had to choose one member from each of the seven provinces and two Madhesi women, one Madhesi man, one Dalit woman, one Dalit man, two Janajati women, two Janajati men, two Khas-Arya women, one Khas-Arya man, one member from the backward region and one each from Tharu and Muslim communities.
