Absconding drug smuggling convict held from Balaju

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police arrested an absconding drug smuggling convict after seven and half years of conviction from Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Police arrested Krishna Bahadur Tamang (25) of Bungtang-9 in Nuwakot district, who had been on the run after being convicted of drug smuggling on August 17, 2009, from Basantanagar, Balaju of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16.

The Kathmandu District Court had sentenced him to jail for two years and a fine of Rs 10,000.

However, he was absconding and execution of the sentence was pending.

Now, he has been sent to the Central Jail in Sundhara, Kathmandu to do the time.

Investigation into Tamang's involvement in drug smuggling had begun after three persons deployed by him as drug mules were arrested from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on August 19, 2000.
