Absconding foreign employment fraud convict nabbed

KATHMANDU: An absconding foreign employment fraud convict has been nabbed by police on Friday.

The 28-year-old Rajan Gurung, currently residing in Nakhipot, LSMC-14, was arrested from around his residence by a team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police today.

The Foreign Employment Tribunal on January 20, 2016, had convicted him in four fraud cases and sentenced to jail for six years and nine months and a fine of Rs 675,000.

He, however, was absconding and execution of the sentences was pending.

According to police, Gurung among others had published an advertisement on a website around three years ago, calling applications for jobs at a cruise ship in Australia.

Accordingly, 10 persons including Tej Bahadur Karki from Barjang-9 of Myagdi district had paid Gurung as much as Rs 7.67 million after the latter said they needed training in India and Philippines for the lucrative job.

Then, the 10 persons were sent to India and Philippines before Gurung went out of contact.

Then, the victims had filed a case against Gurung at the Tribunal.

Meanwhile, police presented the convict at the Lalitpur District Court for execution of the sentence today itself. After the court order, he has been sent to the Nakhkhu Jail.
