Absconding fraud convict arrested after seven years

KATHMANDU: Police said a special team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested an absconding fraud convict after seven years.

The Kathmandu District Court on June 8, 2010, had slapped one year in prison and Rs 255,525 fine on Ram Chandra Pandit (34) of Thaprek-9 in Nuwakot district in a fraud case.

However, he was at large since the date. But, the CIB team had nabbed him from Tahachal of Kathmandu yesterday.

The Court had observed that a marketing agent of the People's Helpful Saving and Credit Cooperative, Pandit had defrauded the Cooperative clients of the cash equal to his fine in six months of 2008.

Meanwhile, police presented the convict before the Kathmandu District Court, which ordered him to take to the Central Jail in Sundhara for the execution of sentence.
