Absconding red sandalwood smuggler lands in police net

KATHMANDU: Police on Tuesday arrested a man who was absconding after being convicted in a red sandalwood smuggling case around two years and four months ago.

Rudra Narayan Timilsina (39), a permanent resident of Dhuskun VDC-1 of Sindhupalchok district, was arrested from Koteshwor, KMC-35, by a team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police today.

The Kavre District Court on May 19, 2013 had convicted him in the red sandalwood smuggling case and slapped Rs 964,800 fine and one year imprisonment.

He, however, was absconding since the verdict.

Meanwhile, police produced him before the Kathmandu District Court for execution of the verdict. The Court sent him to Dillibazaar Jail.

Timilsina was arrested with 603 kg red sandalwood logs from Panchkhal of Kavrepalanchok on September 2, 2011.
