Absconding vehicular homicide suspect held after 20 days
KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday arrested an absconding vehicular homicide suspect from Kathmandu.
A team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division arrested Nir Bahadur Tamang (28), a permanent resident of Maheshwora-3 of Sindhupalchok district, currently residing in Sukedhara of Kathmandu.
Tamang was absconding after his pick-up van (Ba 4 Cha 1012) fatally hit one Lok Bahadur Shrestha (40), a permanent resident of Panchkule-1 in Dang district, last month.
Police said the vehicle heading towards Basundhara from Sukedhara had hit two persons including Shrestha in front of the Shankha Park, Dhumbarahi at around 2:30 am on January 19.
Police had rescued Shrestha and another injured, Hukum Mahara (44) from Libang-7 of Rolpa, from the incident site and rushed them to the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
Shrestha, however, had succumbed to the injuries on the way.
The MCD claimed that Tamang had left the Valley five days after the incident and was residing at his home in Sindhupalchok district in a bid to escape the arrest.
However, he was in Kathmandu today and a team deployed from the MCD nabbed him. Police also impounded his vehicle.
The MCD handed over the suspect to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, for further investigation and action.
