Activists stage protest

KATHMANDU: Dozens of rights activists gathered near the Office of the President and recited poems in a symbolic protest against the government’s failure to book the culprit(s) of Nirmala Panta’s rape and murder.

Campaigns like National Campaign Against Rape,  #JusticeForNirmala and #RageAgainstRape brought the activists and literary figures together for the protest.

Protesters criticised the government for failing to control increasing incidents of rape and violence against women in the country.

Ashmita Shahi Thakur, 21, one of the participants of the protest, recited a poem questioning the values of patriarchal society and the government’s slogan of ‘Prosperous Nepal, happy Nepalis’.
