‘Guilty’ govt faces apex court’s music
Kathmandu, November 27:
The Supreme Court today demanded reasons on why the procedural act for the appointment of constitutional bodies was yet to be promulgated.
A single bench of Justice Kalyan Shrestha issued the order responding to a public interest litigation filed by a group of
advocates, including Madhav Kumar Basnet.
It directed the PM, Chief Justice, members of the Constitutional Council, Speaker of the Legislature-Parliament and Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Law, Justice and
Constituent Assembly Affairs, and Deputy Prime Minister Bam Dev Gautam to submit their
explanations within 15 days, placing the issue on the priority list for the hearing. The petition was lodged asking the apex
court to order the government authorities to enact necessary law for the appointment in the constitutional bodies.
The petitioners have called the apex court intervention, alleging that the authorities have been appointing officials as constitutional bodies even without the enactment of the act.
