‘Flawed’ investigation triggers protest
Kathmandu, May 10:
The Free Students’ Union (FSU) of the Lainchour-based Amrit Science Campus (ASCOL) organised a two-hour chakkajam this morning.
The students were protesting against the “delay in the investigation into the death of Sunil, Anil and Sujan Bajracharya”. The three, students of ASCOL, were found dead in a rented room at the Khusibu Town Planning, Naya Bazaar, on April 20.
The students burnt tyres in Lainchour, in front of the Ascol campus and in Thamel, bringing traffic to a halt.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police said yesterday that carbon monooxide could have caused the death. The Bajracharya brothers hailed from Thansingh VDC-2 (Nuwakot).
Tek Raj Pacchai, chairman of the FSU ASCOL unit, accused police of not investigating the case properly.
“It is a murder, not a suicide, and police should investigate the case properly,” Pacchai said. “We will announce fresh protests if the government does not investigate the murder case seriously,” Pacchai said, adding, “All those involved in the murder should be punished in accordance with the law.”
Meanwhile, Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani, joint chairman of the Rastriya Janashakti Party, condemned the delay in the investigation of the death of the three brothers. In a press release today, he urged the government to take up the issue seriously.
