‘Inclusive policy’ in peace talks sought
Lalitpur, June 13 :
The next round of peace talks between the Maoists and the government should adopt an inclusive policy to make proportional representation of the population, said Shova Gautam president of Institute of Human Rights and Communication Nepal today.Speaking at an interaction, she said: “It is important to have proportionate representation to address all issues. There are high chances of overlooking the issues of conflict victims”.
“People who have been inducted into the Maoist forcefully need to be reintegrated into the society; affected children by the conflict need psychological counselling,” said Gautam, adding that the whole peace talks process seems to be ignoring the social issues. Civil society is concerned that the political parties might fail to notice the social issues while resolving the political crisis, she added.
“Though both the government and the Maoists have agreed not to disrupt the peace process, the Maoists are, however, talking in such a manner that is endangering the peace process,” she said.
“Mediators and monitors should be appointed to document and monitor the talks process.” “Even the ceasefire announcement did not have any agreement between the talking parties. she said.
